Hi, readers!! My name is Nicole and I normally blog over at Little Blog on the Homestead. Thank you so much to Karin for letting me stop by and share my story with you guys. I’ve always wanted to be one of the fabulously talented people who could create magic with their hands.
I’ve always been a believer that those who can…do, and those who can’t…support! I adore supporting the arts, whatever that might look like. And while I don’t have that innate talent, I do still enjoy my own projects.
If you ask my husband, he’d say I enjoy buying the supplies for projects more than the projects…but what does he know?!
Writing is my primary form of art. I’m not going to set the world on fire anytime soon, but I love what I do. I love writing from the heart and sharing it with the world. Hearing from readers that something I wrote touched them in some way is the greatest gift.
And I’ve gotten to meet some pretty amazing people thanks to my blog, including my lovely host today!
But while writing may be where I have at least some talent, I still love to get my hands going on various projects. Right now, I’m slightly obsessed with embroidery!
This is a project I’ve dabbled in a couple of times over the last few years, but right now it’s really becoming a passion again. I think it’s because there is a good mix of creative, and following the rules. If you give me something free form, I can pretty much guarantee I’m just going to sit there and stare at it.
But give me a good pattern to follow and I’ll happily to do the work!
What I love most about embroidery though is that you can do it with or without a pattern (I like patterns), and you choose how closely you stick to the rules of the pattern! I love having the outline and then making my own choices for colors and styles of embroidery.
I found a great little tutorial with different styles, knots, and patterns and I’ve really enjoyed trying them all out on my various projects. At the moment, I’m working on two different pieces.
Up first is one that I’ve been working on for YEARS! It’s a table runner that at some point when I finish it, will be for my mom’s table. We live in an area where tulips are a big deal and I know she’ll like it.
The other is a continuation of a project I did as a Christmas present. I gave my friend a set of bar towels with a fun retro theme and I loved them so much that I wanted some for myself. This is an iron pattern that I found in a thrift store (which is one of my favorite places to find craft supplies) and it’s been really fun.
I’ve used bright fun colors to match the retro theme and it’s been fun to see the pictures come together!
Thanks so much to Karin for letting me stop by and share my current craft! Embroidery has been a great starter craft for me and is an excellent option for people who like small handcrafts!
Hope you’ll stop by and check out my blog, Little Blog on the Homestead, and give me a like over on Facebook! We have a lot of fun there.
Thanks for stopping by, Nicole! Love the retro feel of those towels. Very cool 🙂 And I love the tulips, too. No doubt your mom will, too. Where did you get the towels from?

Honestly, I have no idea! I picked them up at a thrift store I think, they’re large square ones and I cut them in half to make them into rectangular towels
